India’s Pragati ensures label perfection through rigorous inspection

BW Converting's Baldwin Guardian OLP and PQV automate processes with error-free accuracy

GREEN BAY, Wis. — July 30, 2024 — Pragati Graphics and Packaging Pvt Ltd, a leader in the Indian printing and packaging industry, has been setting industry standards in innovation and quality since its inception in 1960. With a legacy of over six decades, the Indore, India-based innovator has evolved through embracing continuous technological advancements.

Catering to the demanding sectors of pharmaceuticals, food and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Pragati specializes in a wide array of products, including mono-cartons, self-adhesive labels and laminates.

In the precision-critical world of printing, ensuring complete accuracy for labels – especially in the pharmaceutical sector – is paramount, Pragati faced the challenge of manual offline inspection processes that were not only time-consuming, but also prone to human errors.

“Accuracy is not just a goal; it's a necessity, especially when printing vital product labels," emphasized Rajesh Nema, Pragati’s Director.

To fulfill its commitment to excellence and efficiency, Pragati recognized the pressing need for a system that could automate its processes while ensuring error-free accuracy. This was even more crucial given the intricate nature of the labels it produces, which often feature densely packed information on a very small scale.

Ensuring precision through innovation

In pursuit of unparalleled printing accuracy, Nema embarked on a global search for a cutting-edge solution, ultimately partnering with Baldwin Technology, one of BW Converting’s six industry-leading brands. This collaboration brought Baldwin’s Guardian OLP system into Pragati’s workflow. This state-of-the-art solution, celebrated for its unparalleled promise of 100% accuracy in the printing industry, is designed to eliminate pre-press and pressroom defect issues, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.

The Guardian OLP works in one of two ways: by comparing file-to-file before going to a press, or by taking press samples and comparing them to the customer-approved artwork. Artwork can be less than 4-point font and the advanced software can identify any impurities in a matter of seconds.

Following exceptional results with Guardian OLP, Pragati elevated its print quality capabilities by adding the inline Guardian PQV 100% Print Inspection system, which can inspect all types of materials and substrates, enables printers to eliminate every defect with a more efficient, accurate, data-connected workflow. The system provides unique “Object-Based Inspection” throughout the entire printing process—ensuring tighter tolerances and fewer false defects. Areas of interest on the printed substrate can be defined for enhanced or reduced levels of inspection. Operators can easily spot errors and make adjustments in real time, as well as manage defects throughout the entire process. Defect positions and images are recorded and can be accessed at multiple post-press processes.

On top of the new-and-improved systems, Nema valued Baldwin’s comprehensive technical support. The India-based team ensured that any potential issues could be swiftly addressed, maintaining uninterrupted high-quality production.

Redefining standards with flawless printing

By adopting Baldwin’s Guardian technology, Pragati has significantly improved its ability to identify and rectify errors instantly, enhancing both customer satisfaction and its own market reputation. Moreover, this shift has led to a substantial decrease in waste and a boost in productivity, propelling Pragati's growth beyond the industry norm and solidifying its status as a market leader.

The seamless integration of Baldwin's solutions into Pragati's operations has been further underscored by the lack of any significant issues and exceptional after-sales support.

“Their technical support team in India is well equipped to sort out any issue – if there is one,” Nema emphasized. “However, so far I have not faced any glitch in the system.”
